DEALING WITH ADDICTION...
♣ What Is The Difference Between Substance Abuse And Addiction? ♣
Substance abuse is using an illegal substance or using a legal stubstance in the wrong way. You can get addicted to all sorts of stubstances -- though some are more addictive than others.
Addiction is when you have no control over whether or not you use a drug or you drink -- you have to have it. Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both.
♣ Physical And Psychological Addiction ♣
Physical : When your body becomes dependent on a particular substance or you build tolerance to that stubstance (needing a larger dose than before to get the same effects). When someone is addicted and they stop using that stubstance, they may experience withdrawal symptoms such as diarrhea, shaking, or generally feeling awful.
Psychological : When your cravings for that substance is emotional and you feel overcome by the desire to have it.
♣ A person crosses the line between abuse and addiction when their life centers around the drug and they no longer feel like there is a choice in taking a substance. ♣
♣ Signs of Addiction ♣
Physical signs :
changes in sleeping habits.
feeling shaky or sick when trying to stop.
needing to take more of the stubstance for the same effect.
changes in eating habits.
Psychological signs :
use of drugs or alchohol as a way to forget problems.
withdrawal or keeping secrets from loved ones.
problems with school.
changes in friendships.
spending a lot of time figuring out how to get drugs.
stealing or selling belongings to afford drugs.
failed attemps to stop taking drugs or drinking.
anxiety, anger, or depression.
mood swings.
♣ Getting Help ♣
Recognizing you have a problem is the first step to getting help. Although a lot of people think they can kick the problem alone, that usually doesn't work out. It may help to tell a friend or an understanding adult about your problem -- overcoming addiction isn't easy and most people need professional help.
♣ Tips On Getting Help ♣
tell supportive friends about your decision to stop using a stubstance.
ask family and friends to be available when you need them and accept their help.
accept invitations only to events that you know will not involve drugs or alcohol.
have a plan about what you'll do if you find yourself in a place with drugs or alcohol.
remind yourself that having an addiction doesn't make you bad or weak.
♣ Staying clean is a lifelong process. Joining a support group is a good option and helping others can benefit you as well. If you have a relapse, recognizing it is critical and never be afraid to ask for help! ♣

YOUR SECRETS TO STAYING MOTIVATED
♣ Most Common Types of Resolutions ♣
These are some very common resolutions that people make.
lose weight.
do something for personal development.
do better in school.
get more excercise.
kick a bad habit.
♣ Making It Happen ♣
To reach a goal, it helps to have a plan with specific steps. It also helps to tell your goal to someone you trust. Think about the goal and take it seriously.
♣ Tips On Making It Work ♣
plan what you're going to do.
encourage yourself!
make a list.
talk to your family about it.
get some friends or family to pitch in and help.
try to be around people that encourage you.
♣ Friends can sometimes be a bad influence. ♣
It can be tough to stick with a goal for a long time -- especially when you don't have the right support. 39% of people give up on their resolutions because they can't get motivated to it. 23% don't make resolutions because they think they won't be able to stick to it.
♣ Staying Positive ♣
When you stray from your goals, it's tempting to give up altogther, but slip-ups are actually part of the learning process. Remember to think positively because optimism brings sucess and sucess can help you stay motivated!
♣ Staying Motivated ♣
recognize and enjoy small sucesses.
competetive spirit.
practice.
know you can do better.
look up to someone.
think about how much people care.
♣ When Times Are Tough ♣
Some people have been hospitalized for serious difficulties such as depression, eating disorders, and even attempted suicide. When things are really tough, making a resolution to change often isn't enough. It can be hard to stay motivated when you're doing it alone. People with serious difficulties need help from friends and family. If you're struggling with heavy problems, admitting them and reaching out to a friend for help is the first step to recovery.
♣ Focus On Accomplishments, Not Failures ♣
Remember, you don't have to wait for New Years to make a resolution! Don't forget to tell yourself how much better you feel and take it easy on yourself.
